fall candles

It's every candle lover's favorite time of year - fall scents are here!

Although I love trying new scents, I find myself returning to some amazing scents the last few years that Jake and I both love in our home and had to repurchase.

Outfit Details (both were Nordstrom Sale finds!): Split Back Sweater // Leggings (quality almost on par with Lululemon!)

Here are some of my picks at all different price points! And I also have a few tips to get the most of your dollar when buying candles.

1. Mahogany Teakwood by Bath and Body Works

This beauty smells like warm cologne and also a forest. One of my favorite things about this candle is that it will fill a large room. When they came out with the "extra strength" version, it only became better! I could have this scent burning in every room and be a happy camper! They are buy 2 get 2 free right now.

Hello, let me introduce you to your perfect pumpkin scented candle. I like the 8.1 oz size (60 hour burn time) for fall, but for winter I'll buy their holiday scent in three wick (100 hour burn time). Either size will give your room a nice strong scent of pumpkins and spices. I passed on this one this year due to other favorites, but if there were enough hours in the day for me to stay at home and burn candles, this one would be in my hand.

P.S. if you go through NEST website and it's your first purchase you get 15% off and free shipping (if you get 2 candles) when you sign up for email. If you do this, go ahead and get the Birchwood and Pine for Christmas in one single purchase because this is the best Christmas Scent - your living room transforms into a fir and pine forest with hints of musk and amber. It's amazing, and these two will be all you need this season.

This scent is Jake's all time favorite candle scent, we have it in the 10.2 oz and 6.5 oz size. It's a smoky bonfire in a forest. You are transported there immediately. It burns so slowly we get way more burn time then what Diptyque lists. This is perfection for fall and winter and cozying up on the couch. Our apartment living room fills with this scent in either the 10.2 oz size or 6.5 oz, but I'm not sure how the 6.5 oz would do in a massive room.

4. Capri Blue Volcano (well technically "Cider" is pictured but it's lasts year's version)

I bought the cider one last year, but I recently picked up another Volcano. Volcano is a year-round scent that is always refreshing and cozy. Believe it or not, Jake also helped pick this one out. He was watching me shop at Anthro and he loved the scent inside so much that we came home with our first Volcano and have had one on hand ever since. The packaging is gorgeous and the scent will fill an entire room easy. The burn time is forrrrever and you get a large bang for your buck! The scent is described as fruits and mountains .... trust me, you'll want this one.

What are the differences between the fancier ones and the less fancy ones? Burn time, scent area (usually a guarantee with fancy ones - although BathandBodyworks has some good throw too!), and scent complexity.

Here's three candle tips to get the most from your scents.

1) Ensure that your first burn burns the entire surface area of the candle. Otherwise you'll see tunneling (example here) and tunneling will never fix itself - so you just wasted your precious scented wax. For Diptyque and NEST this means I won't do the first burn unless I let it burn for at least 3-6 hours (depending on the size). The subsequent burns won't require this care because they should burn evenly from then on.

2) Trim you wick - every single burn! Keep it short to minimize smoke (but not too short where it won't burn the entire layer). Short wicks also allow for even burn and more burn of the actual scent instead of burning up just smoke. See below.

3) Unless it's your first burn never burn for more then three hours. Candles can explode. Also, don't you remember this girl's Bath and Body Works fireball to the face?

What are your favorite fall candle scents? I'd love to check some of your recs out!
