Jake and I visited Kansas City last month for a concert, and we knew we wanted to tour Boulevard brewery while we were there. The brewery offers daily tours first come first serve to the public for free, but we went for the paid Smokestack Tour that included a more in-depth look at the place and a paired food and beer tasting.
Our tour was a few hours long, and we they gave us pleeeenty of beer along the way. For a Sunday morning I was not ready for all of the samples, but they are definitely not stingy with their samples. We even had three more samples of beers to order that we just couldn't order at the end.
The tour begins with a "mini beer" followed by a full pour of Tank 7 while you learn about the beer making process and explore the roots of the company. You then see how each step of the brewery works, see and smell all of the different hops, and even peek into the bottling. We concluded our tour with tastings and beer pairings. It's fun to see how all of the different flavors are brought out, and it was fun to try some tasty local foods. We walked away with a free pint of their Love Child Sour Ale, and we had an absolute blast. The paid tour for a longer and more in-depth look (plus more samples) was worth it. I definitely recommend this tour the next time you are in KC.
