TO DO

Redecorate for spring.

I don't know about you, but I've been caught in a lull at home. I love my home decor pieces, but staring at the same things for four years in the same spots gets old. I decided to rearrange the pieces that I have around to different rooms and locations. I also added a few new floating shelves, a round mirror, and some fresh green/blue eucalyptus. I finally found something perfect for the dreaded behind-the-couch white space, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I'll share some more when it's all done!

TO SEE

The Imposters.

I heard about this series from one of my favorite people to follow on instagram. It's addicting, hilarious, awkward, and full of suspense! We stayed up way to late the last couple weeks watching season one on Netflix! The story follows a group of people who are con artists and one falls in love with men/women, marries them, and then takes their money. The spouses are left confused and alone. A few of the people conned finally catch on and are on a mission to track down their ex-lover and her gang of con artists, but they are in for much more than they bargained! This is a dangerous game! Season 2 is on regular TV this week, so if you start it on Netflix go ahead and DVR season 2 - trust me you'll want to!

TO TRY

Oversized sunglasses.

Kim K has tried to push the smaller sunglass trend as of the last few months (those mini cat eyes are everywhere now), but oversized sunglasses will stand the test of time. Plus, they offer other benefits. First, they offer UV protection so less sun damage and wrinkles around your eyes! Second, you are unrecognizable if you don't feel like small talking. This has happened walking around outside at school and people who I know well didn't even say hi (even after I awkwardly did). Third, they make your face look smaller and they've been in style for years. My favorites are here-splurge (and the dupe here), here, and here.

TO READ

I didn't get much done from my personal reading list last month. I read about four books for my medical school book club, and then this pick was for my normal book club. I've read this book four times, it's that good. It's the true story of a young girl with parents who chose a life on the road. They did many questionable things raising their children. It's full of laughs and tears. Jake laughed out loud through most of the book, and I'd never seen him do that before. The movie came out last summer, and I finally sat down and watched it, so good!

TO MAKE

Your Goals a Priority.

When I was 13 years old I wrote down what I wanted to accomplish in Junior high. At 15, I wrote down what I wanted to do in high school and the steps I would need to take over the course of the next four years to accomplish that. At 18, I wrote down that my goal was to get into medical school and I wrote down the specific ways I would strengthen each area of my future medical school application. At 21, I wrote down goals for medical school. At 25, I'm thinking about the next 5-8 years and writing down goals for our financial future, my career, and our future family goals. It's been much harder writing down tentative plans on how we will achieve those goals, since we've never done this before and our situation is more unique than our friends' (hello massive med school loans). We've sat down and made time this month thinking about all of this and making our plans. Sure, life will all work out, but I am always much more at peace in my mind with a tentative plan and a goal! I encourage you to think about your goals, and write down the steps you'll need to take. Patience and a plan will get you there!

TO TASTE

Salmon.

The Omega-3-Fatty acids are the main benefit to this yummy fish. These have been proven to decrease inflammation, lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of cancers, and improve the function of the cells that line your arteries. It also can lower your risk of heart disease (reminder the #1 killer)! All the B vitamins will help many organ systems. Astaxanthin is an antioxidant and will lower your "bad" cholesterol and increase your "good" cholesterol. Salmon also affects your hormones, it makes you feel full, and the omega-3-fatty acids have research supporting they promote weight loss and decrease belly fat. The fish oil found in salmon has been shown to promote brain health by reducing depressive symptoms, protecting fetal brain health during pregnancy, decreasing anxiety, slowing age-related memory loss and lowering the risk of dementia. Plus it's delicious (and that's coming from someone who doesn't eat fish!). My advice if you "don't like fish" but want to try it made to taste great - put a creamy sauce over it and bake over angel hair . I also like it in a salad with bacon!
