We bought our first table ever this year and it came last Wednesday, with just enough time to decorate it for Thanksgiving this week.
In our old apartments we never had any room for a table, and so we went BIG with this one! The table itself can seat ten including the end seats but our dining room is not large enough to have people seated on the ends. We had an awful experience ordering light beige upholstered dining chairs from Target. After sending 18 chairs back (due to being sent wrong fabric, then wrong wood, then wrong wood colors again) we decided that we will have to just continue looking.
Thanksgiving this year will just be Jake and I. Unless you've been living under a rock, you've seen the news that our Nebraska hospitals are full and our physicians are very worried we won't be able to care for patients who need us - including those not COVID related! Pregnancy puts me in a higher risk COVID group as well, and so we've been taking extra precautions to avoid getting ill. Pregnant or not though, I highly encourage (beg) you to not gather with people outside of your household. For the sake of our Nebraska friends and neighbors who will need hospital beds and staff members to care for them for not just COVID but for heart attacks, strokes, car accidents, emergencies, and more.
My dad died two years ago at Thanksgiving and this holiday is very special to me as it reminds me of the importance of family, being together, and being thankful for what you have. Some have said "don't take life for granted just go spend time with you loved ones", and as someone who lost someone I disagree with this statement. We aren't guaranteed tomorrow, but it's highly likely you can survive this pandemic and see your loved ones again if you social distance and wait this out. If you put your friends, family, and neighbors at risk, you or they can be going through these upcoming holidays (and forever) without that special someone and that is truly devastating. Over 256,000 people have died of this virus in the United States. That's 256,000 American families who will have to deal with what is likely the worst holidays they've ever had. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemies.
I am sick of being distanced physically from my mom and sister, but I also know that the storm will end and the sun will rise again soon just like it always has.
I hope you take advantage of the free unlimited Zoom to spend time with your family and can keep some traditions alive. I know I'll be binging all the Thanksgiving episodes of Friends this week!
