2017: A Year in Review

This year has had many highs and lows, and I'm so excited to welcome 2018.

In January Jake started a new job at Union Pacific, he's been getting along well there and continues to walk to work from our downtown apartment. Last January he also started a new lifestyle change ... which really just involves healthy eating and exercise and (he'll kill me if he's reading this for bragging on him) he has lost over 65 pounds since last December. His 26th birthday is today, and although he'll be working late, we'll try and grab dinner downtown after work to celebrate.

In February I delivered my first baby (and possibly last?) *clarification: the babies was not mine, I meant I helped women deliver their babies* on my OB rotation. In March I witnessed the burden of mental illnesses on families and individuals and also what drug and alcohol addiction is like on my psychiatric rotation. April through June I had a long internal medicine rotation where I learned way more than I thought I could. Spring also brought the passing of my Grandma, and although I know she was welcomed into heaven, our hearts ached multiple times this year for her loss on this earth.

In July I worked my hiney off and rocked the second test of my Boards Exams. That next day Jake and I left for two weeks in Italy and had the most amazing time of our lives. A few days later I started Anesthesiology rotations, research, and travel to interviews around the country for residencies. I was happy to be able to watch the solar eclipse on the eclipse line with my Mom. Jake and toured a brewery and a few vineyards for the first time and got our use of our season passes at the zoo. I ended the year in Kentucky with my Skidmore side of the family, and had one of the best times this year there since I flew in and had a few extra days to spend with family.

I panicked on New Year's Eve when I realized it was 2018.

"Jake, 2018 is the year I'm a doctor".

As I write this, I'm extremely scared and excited for what 2018 will bring.

I don't know where we'll be this year, where we'll be living, or what other adventures we'll have, but thank you for continuing to read my posts and I wish you all a very happy new year!
