venice in two days

Venice is a city for romantics. It’s absolutely beautiful and when explored during the right times, it’s magical. When I first saw this city I thought I was inside of a storybook with buildings, water, boats, and people that were truly unreal. Take a peek at the colorful buildings, golden mosaics on St. Mark's, and abundance of pigeons. I have a post coming soon for our top tips for enjoying Venice while still avoiding the masses of people who flock to enjoy it along with more photos. For now, here’s our guide for Venice in two days. Click here for a few minutes of video footage from our trip.

Did you know the mismatched marble columns on St. Mark's are there because all of the marble was stolen from conquests? Same with the horses and gold for their mosaics. Don't forget to cover you knees and shoulders when you visit and no photography!

Day 1:

Walked around to catch our first glimpse of St. Mark’s Square, Rialto Bridge, the Grand Canal, Bridge of Sighs, and explored the canals.

Crossed the Rialto bridge for dinner at Trattoria San Toma .

Day 2:

6:30 Explored St. Mark’s Basilica and Doge’s Palace all alone and admired the beauty in the buildings and the grand views.

I had goosebumps knowing we had the city to ourselves and we kept exploring for another hour towards the fish market and Rialto bridge.

8:00 Enjoyed made to order Breakfast at our hotel

9:00 Climbed the Bell Tower

9:30 Explored the Correr museum (Venice art and culture)

12:30 Toured Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica

5:00 Napped

7:00 Dined alongside the Canal at Ristorante ai Barbacani

8:30 Walked around town where locals were gathered already to claim their spots to watch the midnight annual fireworks show

in honor of being rid of the Black Plague in 1576.

12:00 From the hotel terrace we had Prosecco and watched the most amazing firework show over the water.

Day 3:

Slept in after a very long Day 2, and walked 30 minutes to the train station while viewing some of the city we hadn’t seen yet.

The bridges, beauty, gondolas, and grandiose buildings left us awestruck.

The rich culture of this ancient city is still alive.

Venice is not to be missed.
